요즘 AICPA 협회로부터 위와같은 무시무시한(!) 메일을 받고 내용에 대해 문의하시는 분들이 종종 있습니다.
내용은 주로 ‘빨리 회신하지 않으면 당신의 AICPA 라이센스에 문제가 생길 수 있다!‘ 입니다.
예를 들어,
Dear AICPA member,
We have received a notice of your presumable participation in tax return fraud on behalf of one of your employees. In obedience to AICPA Bylaw Section No. 765 your Certified Public Accountant position can be revoked in case of the aiding of filing of a false or fraudulent tax return for your client or employer.
Please familiarize yourself with the complaint below and respond to it within 21 days. The refusal to provide elucidation within this term will abide in revokation of your Accountant status.

Dear accountant officer,
We have been informed of your alleged assistance in income tax infringement on behalf of one of your employees. According to AICPA Bylaw Paragraph 730 your Certified Public Accountant license can be withdrawn in case of the aiding of filing of a misguided or fraudulent tax return for your client or employer.
Please familiarize yourself with the complaint below and provide your feedback to it within 14 days. The failure to do so within this period will result in suspension of your Accountant license.

일반적인 분들이라면 영어 메일이면 무조건 스팸메일이겠거니 하고 삭제해버릴텐데…
AICPA 시험에 준비하고 계시거나 합격하신 분들은 오히려 내용을 유심히 읽어보게 마련이고
라이센스에 문제가 생길 수 있다는 내용 때문에 걱정되어 회신을 하거나 첨부파일을 열어보는 경우가 많습니다.
AICPA 시험에 응시하셨거나, 해외에 갔다오셨거나, 회계/미국 관련된 업무를 하시는 분들이 주된 타겟인 것 같습니다.
AICPA 공식 웹사이트에서 이런 스팸/피싱 메일에 대해 경고하는 공지를 냈습니다. 내용 꼭 확인하세요!
링크한 페이지에서 보실 수 있듯,
해당 메일에 회신하거나, 링크를 클릭하거나 첨부파일을 열지 말고 바로 삭제하셔야 합니다.
그러지 못했다면 꼭 바이러스 테스트를 실행해보시구요.

AICPA 협회에 이메일을 보내 직접 진위여부를 확인해보실 수 있습니다.
받은 메일을 AICPASpamReporting@gmail.com로 전달하여 문의하시면, 스팸메일 여부를 확인받으실 수 있습니다.
AICPA가 미국 내에서 워낙 공신력 있는 기관이기 때문에 AICPA를 사칭하는 스팸메일이 늘어나는 것 같습니다.
메일 피싱의 피해자가 되지 않도록 각별히 조심해주시기 바랍니다~
